There will be a community 9/11 Memorial Service this Saturday at Peterson Park. Here is more info for those who are interested:

This will be a SHORT memorial service (approx 30 minutes)
WHERE: Peterson Park (in the pavilion)
We have many MHS Students involved in this event, as well as Mattoon Fire Department/Police, Veterans Support Coalition, and others, and we welcome all community members who wish to attend.

MHS Tech Team students participated in an initial round of training with facilitators from Eastern Illinois University and MCUSD 2. These students are being equipped to help others in both the school and community effectively use technology to bring about positive change. The MHS Girls Golf team hosted Champaign Central, Champaign Centennial, and Decatur Eisenhower at Meadowview Golf Course on Tuesday August 31. The Lady Wave won the match with a team total of 193. Blair Powers paced the Lady Wave with an individual score of 43, and Marley Vanhovln contributed a 46. Other scores for the Lady Wave included a 51 from Berit Haldorsen, a 53 from Julia Morton, a 55 from Piper Sanders, and a 56 from Carrigan Hyland.

We are excited to announce that the extended learning opportunity Power Hour will be starting September 13th. Power Hour will run Monday-Thursday from 3:15 to 4:15. Snacks will be provided and transportation is available for those who are eligible.
Power Hour is an extended learning opportunity where students can recieve homework help, intervention support, and enrichment activiities. Space is limited for this program. To save your spot, please complete this form by Tuesday, September 7.

The MHS Boys Golf team placed 5th out of 18 teams in a strong field at the Champaign Central Invitational on Friday at the U of I Orange course in Savoy with a team total of 316. Blaine powers finished 10th overall as an individual with a score of 76. Other Mattoon scores included Evan Diedrich at 78, Madden Johnson at 79, Stewart Druin at 83, Brock Taylor at 85, and Will Pullen at 86.

Matton beat Olney 6-3 in the first game of the Red-Gold Tournament in Charleston. Quincy Hamilton had 3 goals. Jace Gardner scored twice, and Evan Chaney scored one goal. Matton assists came from Hamilton, Trent Hettinger, and Jason Skocy. Mattoon is 1-0 on the season and plays Charleston tonight at 6:00.

The MHS Lady Wave golf team finished 5th out of 9 teams with a total of 181 at the Bloomington High School Best Ball tournament at Highland Park Golf Course on 8/20. Carrigan Hyland and Marley VanHoveln partnered to shoot a best ball total of 90, and Blair Powers and Julia Morton partnered to shoot 91, both earning top ten finishes in the field.

The MHS Boys Golf team won the 14 team John Macek Charger Invitational yesterday at the U of I Orange course in Savoy with a team total of 329. Blaine Powers finished in 3rd place overall with a score of 79, Stewart Druin finished in 6th place with an 80, and Brock Taylor and Evan Diedrich tied for 15th place with a score of 85.

Mattoon High School invites everyone to join us in the Broadway Bolt 5k and 1 Mile Fun Run/Walk on September 22 as part of our Homecoming Week celebration. This event follows the historic Mattoon Invitational Cross Country Course dating back over 50 years! Participants will be running down crowd-lined streets as this run/walk leads our MHS Homecoming Parade! Both the 3 mile and 1 mile run/walk finish at Peterson park so participants can still watch the parade! Please see the attachment for more information.

The MHS JROTC Color Guard presented the colors at the annual Relay for Life on August 21. The Color Guard consisted of Cadet A.J. Reeley, Cadet Milla (“Mee-yah”) Helton, Commanding Cadet Shelby Pickering, and Cadet Raygen (“Reagan”) Drennan. Cadet Battalion Commander, Isabel Spear, presented a check for $689.00, which our Cadets raised at their car wash last weekend, hosted by KC Summers. Thanks to the MHS JROTC for their continued service to our community!

MHS Cross Country had their first competition of the season vs. Charleston and Casey-Westfield in a 1 mile repeat race. Our runners have been working extremely hard, and we are really proud of their efforts and performances last night!

The MHS Boys Golf team placed 3rd out of 22 teams yesterday at the Lincoln Railer Scramble by posting a 14-under-par score of 57. The highlight of the day came when Evan Diedrich holed out from 69 yards. The Green Wave play next at the Battle at Rend Lake on Saturday (8/21).
